Abstract: This paper presents a new method of measuring the height of trees through aerophotos. Based on the area unit centered at the root of a tree, a Digital Height Model (DHM) can be established by using "Moving Tilted Plane" to fit the terrain surface. With the DHM, the problem of invisibility of the root of a tree covered by shrubbery or bushes can be solved. As a result of an experiment, the measuring accuracy has been improved and the mean square deviation of 1.5 (m) for measuring the height of tree has been reached.
