Abstract: The photosynthesis and physiological adaptability of medicinal plants in tree medicinal plant intercropping system were studied. By setting different poplar row spacing grads, the chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of three species intercropping medicinal plants: Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Platycodon grandiflorum and Pinellia pedatisecta which have different quality of enduring shade were observed, and the diversification rules of daily photosynthesis and daily average net photosynthesis rate were analyzed. Accordingly, the physiology and ecological adaptive mechanism to intercropping environment of different medicinal plants were worked out. The research results offer the essential theoretic bases for developing the planting pattern of intercropping trees with medicinal plant in the forest district and western part of China.
